What is DOU-GABIBI?

DOU-GABIBI is a video degradation tool created as a sister service to the image tool GABIBI. It deliberately turns clean footage into textures marked by missing information and noise, recreating the nostalgic character of early-2000s internet video and footage from older mobile phones.

How It Works

The tool applies the same degradation algorithm as GABIBI to each video frame, then reassembles the processed frames into a video.

  • Step 1: Extract Frames
    The video is read one frame at a time.
  • Step 2: Degrade Each Frame
    Each frame is downsampled and repeatedly compressed as JPEG. This creates digital artifacts such as block noise and color bleeding.
  • Step 3: Upscale and Reassemble
    The degraded frames are enlarged to the output size and encoded at the selected frame rate. When the source contains audio, it is restored in sync with the processed video.

⚠ Processing Load

DOU-GABIBI processes each frame locally in your browser, so processing time depends on the source and settings. These guidelines will help keep it stable.

  • Video length: 10 seconds or less recommended
    Processing time increases almost in proportion to video length. Try a short clip first, then process the final video once you are happy with the settings.
  • Lower FPS is faster
    Lower FPS means fewer frames to process. A 10-second clip contains 50 frames at 5 FPS but 300 frames at 30 FPS. For a retro look, 5–10 FPS is often enough.
  • Keep recursive passes modest
    Passes multiply across frames. For example, 10 frames × 30 passes means 300 JPEG compression operations. Start with 3–5 passes.
  • Higher resolution is heavier
    A 4K frame has roughly four times as many pixels as Full HD. Choosing the 720p option before processing can substantially improve stability and speed.

As a rough guide, a 10-second, 720p clip at 10 FPS with 5 passes may take about 30 seconds to one minute on a typical desktop browser.
